Creating a future where the rights of animals are valued
SAFE’s vision is a world where animal rights are valued. They work to achieve that vision through their mission to end the exploitation of animals.
That future isn’t far away. With the help of supporters, every day they are making massive wins for thousands of animals, and each step forward brings us closer to an Aotearoa where all animals matter.
SAFE’s recent wins for animals
SAFE’s work has enabled massive change for animals, and they couldn’t have done it without their supporters working alongside them through the decades. Here are some of the many changes they have helped bring about for animals in Aotearoa:
- Ban on the live export by sea trade
- Review on the greyhound industry
- Farrowing crates and mating stalls for mother pigs ruled to be unlawful
- Ban on battery caging of hens
- Ended exotic animals in circuses
- Freed dolphins from a lifetime in captivity
- Freed mother pigs from sow stalls
- Ended cosmetics testing on animals
- Ended party pill testing on animals
From their humble beginnings in 1932, when a handful of volunteers incorporated as a branch of the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection.
Now with twenty staff spread across New Zealand’s three main centres, and thousands of loud and talented volunteers and supporters, they are stronger than ever. They are the leading voice on anything and everything to do with the animals of Aotearoa.
You will find SAFE everywhere – from farms to the Beehive, from the High Court to the classroom, from television news to social media – working to ensure the concerns of animals are the concerns of the nation.
Animals need us. They suffer in many unseen ways in our society. SAFE is committed to working with society to present positive solutions that will end animal cruelty. Their strategic projects, programmes and activities are designed to create an Aotearoa that is kind to all animals.
